Every business owner I talk to right now is asking the same question: "Where do I even start with AI?" The honest answer is — start small, start practical, and start with the parts of your marketing that already drain your week.
After running a digital agency for 25+ years, I can tell you: the small businesses winning with AI are not the ones using the fanciest tools. They are the ones who picked three boring, repeatable workflows and let AI handle the heavy lifting.
Here are the three I would start with this week:
1. Customer-language mining. Drop your last 50 reviews, support emails, and sales call notes into Claude or ChatGPT and ask: "What words do my customers actually use to describe their problem?" Use those exact words on your homepage. This single move usually doubles conversion.
2. Content repurposing. Record one 10-minute video answering a frequently asked customer question. Feed the transcript into AI and ask for: a blog post, 5 social posts, an email, and 3 short-form video scripts. You just turned 10 minutes into a month of content.
3. First-draft sales replies. Train a custom GPT or Claude project on your best historical sales emails. Now every new lead reply starts at 80% — your team just edits for personality and hits send.
The temptation is to chase the shiny new model. Resist it. Pick three workflows, get them dialed in, and only then expand. That is how you actually build a business that lasts in the AI era.
